What originally started out as selling orders of Hmong food through Facebook has turned into a thriving business and something bigger and more meaningful than Malee could have ever imagined.

Originally a stay-at-home mother and home cook, Malee has transformed her Facebook side hustle into a thriving business and now owns her very own restaurant, Malee’s Kitchen. She has been serving the community her delicious Hmong, Thai, and Lao foods since 2020 while still maintaining the authentic and homemade quality that made people fall in love with her food in the first place.

Hmong culture is a huge part of Malee’s identity and food inspiration, so it was critical to design a brand identity that reflected that. The logomark itself was directly inspired by Hmong motifs, and the color palette was taken from her traditional Hmong clothes.

A large majority of Malee’s customers are Hmong refugees that have immigrated from Southeast Asia. Taking the clientele into consideration, the brand identity created was kept fairly simple. Having a logo that was immediately recognizable as “Hmong” helped attract more of her main customer base as well.
